The ear is divided into three parts, these include the outer ear, middle ear and the inner ear. The outer ear consists of the ear canal and the eardrum. Sound travels down this ear canal striking the eardrum and causing it to move or vibrate. The middle ear is located in the space behind the eardrum and contains three small bones called ossicles. Vibrations from the eardrum causes the ossicles to vibrate which in turn causes the movement of the fluid in the inner ear. Movement of fluid in the inner ear, or cochlea, causes changes in tiny structures called hair cells which in turn sends electrical signals from the inner ear to the auditory nerve and then to the brain. The brain hence interprets these electrical signals into sound. Same as other parts of our body, the ear needs constant care. One of the most common issues with the ear is hearing loss.
What Is Hearing Loss
Hearing loss is a basic decrease in sensitivity to sounds that are normally audible. The type and degree of hearing loss can vary from individual to individual, and is mainly affected by multiple factors including exposure to noise, aging and other medical conditions.

Conductive Hearing Loss
Involves some kind of blockage in the outer and middle ear. It could be caused by a wax blockage, punctured eardrum, birth defects, ear infection or heredity, and often can be effectively treated medically or surgically.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Nerve-related deafness, is the most common type of hearing loss. It involves damage to the inner ear caused by aging, pre-natal and birth-related problems, viral and bacterial infections, heredity, trauma, exposure to loud noise, fluid backup or a benign tumour in the inner ear.
Mixed Hearing Loss
Refers to a combination of conductive and sensorineural loss and means that a problem has occurred in both the outer or middle and the inner ear.
